- Germany’s Federal Employment Agency provides services for the labour market, particularly job placement and employment promotion. As the administrative body of German unemployment insurance, it regulates financial wage replacement benefits (e.g. unemployment benefits).
- Manages an annual budget of approximately 42.6 billion euros (2023) with around 113,000 employees.
Challenges
- Heavily application-based postal processes in vocational rehabilitation.
- Little to no online presence for vocational rehabilitation clients.
- Technical peculiarities of vocational rehabilitation processes due to, for example, sponsorships and their representation in online application processes or automation.
- Barrier-free access to documents and processes.

- Self-services for employers and employees for applications where processes allow.
- Automation of document dispatch and connection to central printing facility for increased efficiency for Federal Employment Agency staff with postal applications.

Timeline

- During our deployment period, the project was transferred from the project phase to line operations (maintenance & further development).
- Automation of document dispatch and connection to the central printing facility led to time savings for Federal Employment Agency staff.
- The relevant departments became familiar with an Agile working method and requirements-based/feature-based implementation strategy, which led to regular releases of features and improvements.
- Digitalisation of additional applications and implementation of online application processes.
- Review of processes together with departments for the purpose of digitalisation and automation within vocational rehabilitation.
